Colombia- dark side – biggest sewage fall in the world – outside Bogotá
Do you sometimes visit somewhere totally querky, rather than a statue or a cultural museum? I do. I have a thing for the dark side, the bizarre and what challenges my view of the view and also of beauty. This waterfall is beautiful. Getting her, it smells a bit of sulfids/ rotten eggs, like at the ‘romantic’ Blue Lagune in Iceland. Looking closer, the once beautiful hotel is empty and protected by two big dogs with each their dog house in front of the main door. The door being open and the flags of countries being inside. Looking closer at the fall, it’s the biggest sewage fall it the world. Totally polluted. Foam on the water of the river leading to it. To make matters even worse, many have committed suicide here. We have this mentioned on @nomadmaniaworld under the list of dark side. Lists of dark side and bizzarium are among those I check in every region I go to, as they are rarely anywhere else, and they challenge my view of the world and of why and how to travel, explore, adventure and expanding my horizon.
Last post from Colombia from my second visit. A round trip that have shown me how big and diverse this country is. Each NomadMania region have provided at different travel experience.
Bogotá – the capital
Leticia – The Amazon and triborder with Brazil and Peru
Cali – The salsa capital
Carthagena – the colonial history, the proud Navy, the coast most pppulated, a new skyline
Yopal – the estancias, the plains in the East with ranches, cattles and Jaguars
Meddelen – the city of both cartels and flower festivals
The coast of the Pacific – whale watching and still unstable with guerillas and Darian (the one I still have left as I prioritised the girls wish to experience Medellin)
The warmest travel recommendation to spend time here – use the regions to cover it all.
