French Guyana – rocket launch

Yes! Witness a rocket launch! ESA European Space Agency launched an Arienne 6 rocket 2.5 hours ago. A meteorological satellite to go in low orbit 800 km above earth. Launched from Kourou in French Guyana at 21:37:09 today 12/05/2025. I watched from Carapa hill and my French engineer neighbour took these first amazing photos with a way better camera than my iPhone.
I spend the entire day in the exhibition and talked with several of the experts behind this. The German team has spend 20 years preparing their part. A French spend 11 years. One of them had worked for Danish Terma. They were truly the heroes of today.
The value of better knowledge of the whether for airlines, shopping and agriculture makes the expected return on investment 20:1 despite these decades of preparation. What an experience.
This trip was planned to be here today in the hope this would happen as planned, and it did. Yes.

My poor driver of the shared taxi promised to come back for me. He did so limping as he had an accident during the day. We agreed he could not ve back, so we changed seat and I drove the 90 km back. The car had the loosest stearing wheel I ever drove. The head of the gear was missing. But it was a great roadtrip in the cars road with little light and I like driving.
