Slovakiet / Slovakia: We traveled in time today in Bratislava

Not only in the clock museum 🤔🤩

We started our day at the tentative unesco site of huge importance to the Jews. The Chatam Sofer memorial where the createst former rabbies are buried and the former Jewish graveyard was. It’s only open upon request and we hesitated to call and inconvenience anyone, but did so and Eugen was the most hospitable person we met this weekend. Despite several very dignified elderly Jewish men cam while we were there, he took time to make us the most important and told a remarkable story of a graveyard – moved as the river bank was moved – the buried under a Sovjet road 🛣️ next to and tunnel – the even more under the tracks of the tram 🚊 and the 3.000 graves were moved to the new Jewish cemetery. 🪦 the remaining graves of the rabbies were all broken and hid in a basement under the road until Jews managed to make an agreement with a former mayor to move the tram 🚊 tracks, and reestablish the cemetery as a memorial with the gravestones raised again. Just 5 days ago 4.000 Jews came to make the day of the death of the first of the line of the rabies here. The one it’s named after. His name mean ‘scribe’ as in on who scribes 🖋️ for a living as opposed to ex a carpenter. Eugen offered coffee and home baked cakes I the congregation house 🏠 next to the memorial afterwards.

We talked about the River to the Sea 🌊 and how it’s the 🏳️‍🌈 in Slovakia 🇸🇰 where there are hardly any muslims / Palestinians. A peculiar choice from 🏳️‍🌈 He knew the synagogues 🕍 in both Copenhagen and Nakskov in Denmark 🇩🇰 The one in Nakskov must have come with the Polish 🇵🇱 Jewish immigrants coming to Lolland to grow sugar roes and potatoes 🥔

We continues to the bunkers that are all along the Salian border to Austria. 🇦🇹 Dark side series of NomadMania. Remarkably similar to the German build bunkers along the Jutland west coast in Denmark. 🇩🇰

The rest of the day we have enjoyed the Danube, museums, the bridge with the UFO 🛸 on top – I revisited the places I went with NomadMania where we gathered our executive committee and others for the Danube swim not that long ago.

Back to Vienna with Flixbux. Buy tickets with the app. Check in with qr code. We spoiled ourselves with tickets for the first road for 45 minutes with a great view and no driving sickness.

Definitely worth a weekend.
