Courage to lead.
Courage to lead. Can courage be learned ? My experience is that YES, you can train courage, by keep pushing your limits, micro courage training, mental training and also showing your vulnerability. With vulnerability, others can help you. And they wil. As people are fundamentally good. In every country in the world.
It was a priviledge to translate what I have learned from traveling into the value to business and boardrooms.
𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being part of a SelectionF webinar across the Nordics on the theme:
𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 – 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱?
We were joined by more than 100 registered participants from across the Nordic countries – all female leaders, executives, and board members – for an inspiring conversation about courage in leadership, business, sport, board work, and life.
Reflections from our moderator Anette Holm from Pernille Blume and my stories:
𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.
Through disciplined self-management, resilience, and preparation, courage can take you to where you want to be – whether that is becoming number one at the Olympics or the first Danish woman to visit every country in the world.
𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻.
It needs to be practised. It is a capability that can be learned.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻.
Whether that is 10,000 hours of sport, leadership, decision-making, travel, or stepping into the unknown.
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂.
As leaders and board members, we bring energy into the room – or we take it away. Good energy matters.
𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱.
Because once you do, they become more real – and others may start helping you move towards them.
And finally, a hopeful reflection from Mette, who has travelled the world, visited every country, and today works in the defence industry:
𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱.
That stayed with me.
! courage is not the absence of fear or uncertainty. It is the practice of moving forward with purpose, responsibility, and belief.
